2012 Xtracycle Tree Haulin (6th Annual)

The Tree HaulerYear Six is D O N E.

We all pedaled up to our local tree lot the other evening, chose a 8′ Noble fir and headed home. Simple, straightforward and almost no drama.

The tree hauler has a flatThe only hiccup was a late discovery of a flat on Tim’s Big Dummy. Whoops, it was fine an hour earlier. He repaired it in less than 10 minutes and we were on our way.

Every year the 9-year-old requests a tree that will prominently display “monkey man”, the rubber monkey his cousin gave him that has become his favorite ornament. Tim and the 12-year-old are a bit more choosy and spend lots of time looking for the perfect tree. When it comes to tree-choosing, I just try to be neutral. Is this the one?

The actual tree hauling is no big deal at this point. Tim throws the tree in his FreeLoader resting on his homemade long/wideloader, adds a few decorations and pedals it home. It helps that our favorite local tree lot is downhill on the way home so the actual riding is pretty easy. If we could just get the impatient motorists on 35th to relax a bit, it would all be wonderful.

How about you? Are you hauling trees on bikes this year?

Happy Holidays from all of us at Carfreedays!
