Xtracycle readers: on the go and home

Some kids watch movies on those ever-so-handy-back-of-the-seat-dvd players, our kids read books on the back of the Xtracycle. Why not? Someone else is “driving”. The Snapdeck is a great place to sit back and enjoy a good book.

Even though the kids have been reading back there for some time and I’ve grown accustomed to the sight,  it still makes me smile. I also chuckle when on-lookers stop and ask, “do you know they’re not holding on back there?”

Yes, I know. Thanks for your concern.

It’s beautiful in Seattle today. We’re going to ride up to the library and checkout some new books.

Have a great weekend!

  2. They’re not holding on?!?! That’s just craziness.

  3. Vince – I know, we’re nutty. Please don’t call CPS on us ; – ) Let’s hope your kids don’t start sipping off those barrels of wine you keep in your garage…

  4. That’s a beautiful site

  5. I love it! Next thing you know they will be back there playing card games.
Say, they look old enough to pedal… what’s up with you hauling them around?

  6. Mitch,

Excellent point! They are old enough to pedal, sometimes it’s just faster for the mom if they ride with me…. 🙂

  7. i LOVE those pics of them. i also love that kids seem to be able to read or sleep anywhere, no matter what.

  8. I love it. TV is such a brain drain.

  9. That is awesome! I hope I can manage the same with my hypothetical future child.

  10. Greatest pictures ever.

  11. I’m just glad to see kids read. We don’t have a TV or video game, so our boy likes to read alot.

  12. That really is a lovely sight. Thanks for sharing.

I’d better not show that photo to my husband, or he’d get ideas about sitting in back reading! Luckily for me, all of our bikes are one-seaters.

  13. So happy to have found you (via MamaVee at Suburban Bike Mama). Love that you have reading kids while on the back of the bike! Here’s a link of a photo I just posted on our blog of our six-year-old twins reading in our bakfiets:

Looking forward to reading more. Cheers.

  15. This is too cool. I would definitely have done this as a kid — was always reading in the backseat of the car!
